The Minus-One Chord (Part 2)

First of all, thanks to ‘pianolover’ for his/her comment on “The Minus-One Chord” post. The following is my reply to his/her question about when to use that chord. I hope it can be useful for everyone…
“I often use Minus-1 in place of 7th chord, in transition from Chord I to Chord IV.
For example, in the key of C, you would notice C7 is used very often between C and F, as in C –> C7 –> F.
What I play, very often is, instead, C –> Bb/C –> F.
Note that the bass note is still a C. This is also know as C11 (C-eleventh).”
In the above example, in the C key, C is Chord I, and F is Chord IV of that key. I’ve used that on many videos posted on this blog, one of the examples is “Amazing Grace”. Please refer to that post.
