Perhaps some of us are unaware of these goals drawn by the United Nations Millennium Declaration, which constituted promises made by world leaders to address, as a single package, peace, security, development, human rights and fundamental freedom. These are 8 goals set in 2000, to be achieved by 2015, and they range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education.

On YouTube’s homepage today, all the featured videos are related to these goals, as the world leaders met once again on 25 SEP 2008 in New York to discuss them.

As the featured videos on YouTube’s homepage change constantly, I would like to embed selected ones here. But before going into the videos, I would like to introduce these 8 goals. They are:

1.    Eradicate extreme poverty & hunger
2.    Achieve universal primary education
3.    Promote gender equality and empower women
4.    Reduce child mortality
5.    Improve maternal health
6.    Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria & other diseases
7.    Ensure environmental sustainability
8.    Develop a global partnership for development

For the specific and measurable targets of each of the goals above, please visit UN’s website at: www.un.org/millenniumgoals.

Below are the selected videos from YouTube. They are mostly from non-profit organizations, and you can see their links in the videos.

Feliz Navidad

You would have noticed in the video that the same chord progression is repeated over and over. That’s all there is. :)

This is quite a new song. I have only listened to this song a few times before making this video. So please excuse me for not getting the melody notes entirely correct.

The song is in the key of G. So, for those of you who know how to play full chords (instead of the 2-finger chords I am cheating with), please take note that the last chord (i.e., at the end of ‘Part 3’ in the video) is an E major chord

Again, please do write to me if anyone is interested to know the chord progressions. Enjoy.

Long Time Ago In Bethlehem

There are 2 patterns in this song. But as you would notice in the video, you need only 2 “chords” on the right hand. It’s the left hand that needs to be busy changing the bass notes. But the bass notes aren’t that difficult really, if you can identify a pattern in its movement. It is actually the coordination between the left and the right hands that is tricky. If you play drum, or have some sense of beats, it would definitely help. Give it a try! :)

I guess there isn’t much I need to comment at all about the playing of this song here. The video should be self-explanatory. All you have to do is repeat the pattern over and over to cover the whole song.
