Say You Say Me by Lionel Richie

There are 2 very similar progressions in this song.
The 1st one goes like this…
I –> V/M –> VIm –> VIm/5 –> IV –> V –> I
See “The M Bass” for the “M” notation above.
The original key is Ab. To make it easier to play, I have used the key of G for illustration. In G, the above progression is translated into:
G –> D/F# –> Em –> Em/D –> C –> D –> G
With some tweaking, we get…
G –> D4/F# –> G/E –> G/D –> C2 –> C2/D –> G
The 3 chords: G, C2 (see “Suspension (part 2)”) and D4 (see “Suspension (part 1)”) have these 2 notes in common: D note and G note. That’s why in the video you can see me playing these 2 notes only throughout this 1st progression.
The 2nd progression goes like this…
I –> V/M –> VIm –> VIm/5 –> I/M –> -I/2 –> -I –> V
See “The Minus-One Chord” post for the “-I” notation above.
In the G key, the progression is translated into:
G –> D/F# –> Em –> Em/D –> G/B –> F/A –> F –> D
With some tweaking, we get…
G –> D4/F# –> G/E –> G/D –> G/B –> F/A –> F –> C2/D
Here’s the video…

hope you can also do this in some videos..
You mean the detailed explanation? Hahaha… After doing that for a while in the beginning of my blogging, I began to wonder if anyone read my explanation at all. So I stopped doing it, and just continued to post videos. Then later, a lot of people asked for chords, so I started posting chords for my videos. I think I will stick to this for now as it takes me too much time to explain. Besides, there are so many song requests that I am still trying to cope with. Haha. In fact, I owe you three songs already by now…!
Thank you…can you make your recordings louder? And…maybe play it first faster than slow for a second time? Thank you, love your site.
Thank you for your comment, Xena. I have problem making the recording louder. I think it has something to do with the gadget I use. :b As for the speed, it would be easier that you download the video from YouTube, then play it back using something like MS Media Player, on which you can adjust the playback speed. That way, you can play the video as slow or fast as you want.
